The Sunshine State Reader program has been around for almost 30 years. Each year approximately 15 books are selected. The books have to be recent and are selected based upon interest. There are no tests and no stringent rules: kids have to read or hear three of the books to be able to participate in the voting process. The whole purpose is to promote great stories that encourage kids to read for pleasure. In my experience, the books are high quality, engaging stories and some of my favorite books have come from these lists. I highly recommend viewing their archives- you will find some great literature! Even if you don’t live in Florida, these are fresh, new titles that will inspire everybody to read!
